1. Get more business by writing articles

As I've mentioned before, one of the hardest parts about having a freelance translation business is finding customers and building your client base.

I've recently started doing something that has brought in some additional potential translation clients, and I'd like to share it with you.

I started writing some articles about language and translation, and submitted them to some article distribution websites. Well, one of the articles got picked up by a Latino print publication in Central New York called CNY Latino, that has a decent circulation. Well, it wasn't long before I got a couple of emails from people who had read the article and liked what I had to say.

This then led to some people who needed some translation work done and now I am in the processing of negotiating some deals, and all this from an article published on a website.

So if you're looking for a new way to find clients, try submitting print and/or online articles to various publications. Be sure to include contact information.

2. AskPaco.com

I'm always interested in new Spanish <-> English dictionaries, whether they are online or in paperback form. The reason is that I'm partly addicted to words and language, but also, there might come a time when a particular dictionary will give you that ever-elusive translation you might be looking for.

AskPaco.com is an online dictionary I just ran across that supposedly has about 60,000 terms. It has a pretty decent interface when you look up a word.

One of the reasons I like it is because it clearly shows different translations for the same word.

3. New interpretation articles

First of all, I'm a translator, not an interpreter. However, I know that many of you might be interested in careers in interpretation.

Well, I've finally added about ten articles to the website about different aspects of the interpretation industry, along with links to more information on areas such as telephone interpretation and federal court interpretation.
