ATA membership is not worth it

by MC
(United States)

I was an ATA member for about 5 years. I enjoyed reading the magazine, but I have not found any other membership benefits.

Working as a full-time freelance translator, none of my clients care about ATA membership or ATA certification.

In my experience, ATA does not generate new business or contacts to potential clients.

ATA membership to find translation jobs
by: Anonymous

Thanks for the comments, MC. When most people think of ATA, they usually think of translator certification, or taking the ATA test to become certified members of the organization. But people that don't even take the test are often interested in joining ATA for the networking that can take place, or to find partnerships and increase their translation practices. However, this doesn't always happen, and it's good to see everybody's view on whether ATA fulfills this desire of a lot of translators who are joining ATA through membership.
