Becoming a medical translator

by Patrica

I am interested in becoming a certified court translator or a medical translator as in hospitals and I constantly see a need for such services.

I speak absolute fluent Spanish and English but feel in order to translate in these arenas I need specialized training. Is there a place where I could receive such training?

Everything I have seen so far is normally just Criminal Justice degrees. I am not interested in a degree in Criminal Justice, just in becoming certified to perform court translations or translations in hospitals as I see a real need for that as well.

Medical certification
by: Clint

A criminal justice degree might not be what you're looking for if you're interested in getting a degree or certification in medical or court interpretation/translation.

I'm not sure where you live but there might be some programs close by where you can get some more training.

I wrote about this before in one of my monthly newsletters: Translation Techniques.

Also, if you're more interested in certification for interpreters (which is what you'll need if you're looking into court interpreting), you'll want to check out the interpreter certification page.

Hope that helps and good luck.
