"Choco" in Bolivia

by Jack
(United States)

I was often called "choco" in Bolivia, which I believe means "blondie" more or less. I'm curious where the origin of this slang comes from (assuming my interpretation was right).

I agree with one of the other posters - in Bolivia it is used as Americans use 'dude' or as English use 'mate'. It is perhaps a little more than that, and shows that you have been accepted into the circle.

Dude

As a peruvian with many Bolivian friends they usually call eachother chocos in a friendly way. It can be used as the slang term "dude" is in english. Ex. Oye choco! como estas?

"Choco" is a word commonly used for squid. We had a goalkeeper on our soccer team we called "choco", because he was so good, it was as if he had ten arms (like a squid).
Hope this helps...
