My company is debating weather or not to change a product name. Does the document that goes with the document need to be retranslated or not? Note this product is translated into many languages.

To retranslate or not

It's always a good idea to have someone look a the original translations. Maybe all you need to do is change the product name as it appears in the text. Maybe, however, the original translation was not quite up to par, and it will be a good idea to redo it from scratch. Depending on the length and difficulty of the text, it might turn out to be a fairly benign proposition costwise. I always tell my client that their documentation forms part and parcel of their products. It's quality should be equal to the quality of the products.
