Every once in a while I will get a request for what amounts to a free translation, English to Spanish. For example, just last week someone emailed me saying that they needed a translator and were willing to pay between $0.005 and $0.01 a word.
Are you kidding me?
It's amazing that people think it's totally normal to pay a translator a half cent per word to translate a document that I presume they feel is important, or at least important enough to be translated.
For that price, it wouldn't even be worth it for me to plug the text into a free online translation search tool and give the client that translation!
So I thought it was pretty funny when just a couple of days later someone passed me a link to a Youtube video, which shows what happens when you rely on free translation (or in this case, interpretation) to get you through your next globalization project.
