Is it possible that "gordo" can be used in a positive sense in contemporary Mexican Spanish to mean cute? As in saying to a child: you are my little cute "gordo" one.
slang for "gordo"? not the literal meaning...NEW by: Anonymous
i am looking for the "slang" or other meaning of this too... my girlfriend uses it not say "fat" or "chubby" because thats literal... from what i can get, it sounds like it means that you are making someone mad. cuando tu haces cosas malas, me cay (cai? cay?) gordo... not sure, but she uses is at all the time to say that someone gets angry or upset... chuy va estar gordo contigo si tu no levantas tu ropa jaunito! i would like to get that definition or slang meaning too... juarez el paso

In Mexico, Gordo/Gorda is a name used to refer to your spouse/sweetheart. Although it may not be common in the rest of the world, in Mexico it seems to be almost a compliment. In all seriousness, I've heard it used by all kinds of couples, often when neither is very gordo. ;) My wife doesn't like it much when I call her Gorda, though. I can't imagine why not.

In Argentina, gordo or gordito is commonly used for little boys. It is a compliment that indicates that they look healthy and well fed. After complimenting one baby, the mother proudly told me that he had gained a kilo each month for his first year.
Gordo may also be used for adults. Instead of calling people in a group by their names, they may be differentiated by some characteristic such as gordo for the fattest, or negro for the darkest skinned. There is no negative connotation connected with the terms.
