Harrap's Giant
Paperback Spanish Dictionary

It almost seems like sometimes there are more Spanish dictionaries in circulation than actual words in the language!

How can you separate the good ones from the not-so-good? The answer? You can't. The thing to do is find one that you like and stick with it, because chances are that finding another one will be too time consuming.

I went through four or five English-Spanish dictionaries before I found one that I liked. After getting discouraged for various reasons with previous dictionaries, a friend of mine introduced me to one he liked:

Harrap's Giant Paperback Spanish Dictionary

I think this is one of the most comprehensive dictionaries available, but… looking for it online I almost fainted because the copies at the online bookstores I checked are all over $60.00! Just for a dictionary!

I think it's out-of-print so if you can find it at some used bookstore, grab it quick (grab a couple and try to sell one on Amazon while you're at it).

That being said, I can't really recommend any other dictionaries because it's my main dictionary.

However, there is a new Harrap's dictionary called Harrap's Spanish and English Dictionary but I've never used it so I don't know how good it really is.

It's Harrap's most recent dictionary and comes at a price of around $10.00, which isn't too bad. According to Amazon, it contains more than 115,000 references and over 170,000 translations and because it comes with the Harrap name on it, I assume it will have the same quality as Harrap's Giant Paperback Spanish Dictionary.

Check it out. It may just be the bilingual Spanish dictionary you've been searching for.
