I want to become a certified translator

by José Quevedo
(Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico)

José asked: I am very interested in becoming a certified translator in Morelia, Mexico. What school do you recommend? If there is not, is there any schools in the USA that might offer some type course regarding this field? If there is, is it online, or long distance?

The Spanish Translator: Hi, José. I'm glad that you are interested in becoming a certified translator. There are many people who are either already translators or who are interested in becoming translators that want to advance their careers by becoming certified translators.

The question that many have, however, is how to go about becoming certified. There are many different ideas out there and while most of these are good, the thing that translators forget is that there isn't a single correct way to become a translator, certified or not. Many successful translators have taken different steps and paths to own their own freelance translation business, so it's important to keep your mind open to different ways of accomplishing your goals.

That being said, while I'm certain that there are translation schools in Mexico, I'm not aware of any off the top of my head. So one thing you might consider is getting an online translation certificate. There are schools located all over the place and it doesn't matter where you live. I would check these out and see if there are any that fit your particular situation

Hope this helps, and good luck.
