I'm not sure how many university programs are available for Italian interpreters, so if you are an Italian speaker interested in interpretation, the best option is to practice, practice, and practice. Due to the fact that Italian is a Romance language, many people who speak Italian also speak either French, Spanish, or Portuguese and are able to interpret between any of these languages. In fact, Italian is the 5th most commonly taught second language in the world, right behind English, French, Spanish and then German.
