Thanx Clint. Think I already looked into the American Translators Association. I thought I read somewhere on their site that there is testing done on the same level too, but I'll look again to make sure, I didn't miss something.

Certification for translators

It seems that you're mostly thinking of being certified as an interpreter but what you really want is accredidation or certification for translators. There isn't an official government-regulated agency for translation certification, but one of the more well-known organzations that offer certification is the American Translators Association.

You might want to look at their website for more information.
