Reina-Valera translation

I'd like to correct an error on this webpage. You indicate that most Spanish speaking Christians use the Reina-Valera version. It is correct that most Protestant Christians use the Reina-Valera. However we do not use the 1909 translation, but rather the 1960 translation. The 1909 translation is not used by anyone except new Christians that accidentally pick it up from a bookstore and use it for a few weeks until someone explains to them that they got the wrong translation.

You can easily confirm this by talking with a few Spanish speaking Christians.

I am looking to purchase many Bibles with God's personal name in them. Does anyone know what Reina?s/Valera translations have retained the personal name of the Hebrew's God Jehovah? 1960??
What Reina?s translation Bibles still retain the transliteration Jehovah in all the 6,000plus, times it occurs in the Hebrew??? -- And where can I find these to buy? There are two that use Jehovah on Bible Gateway web site, but I would like to buy them in book form. Can anyone help? to fine these and where to purchase them. Reina-Valera 1960, or Reina?s Valera Antigua?* Either of those.. The ones that retain God's personal name Jehová or JEHOVA in them every time. Thank you very much.

* "The Reina-Valera Antigua was first translated and published in 1569 by Casiodoro de Reina, after twelve years of intensive work, and later put out in 1602 in revised form by Cipriano de Valera, who gave more than twenty years of his life to its revision and improvement".

Just curious is there omitted verses in the 1960 RVR? If it is contemporary with the NIV then it does omit hundred of verses and changed even more verses. Most take away the deity of Jesus Christ, among other things.

I have served as a missionary in Latin America for over 20 years. When I started (1989) possibly 1 Christian in 10 used RVR1909, 1 in 10 Good News and 8 in 10 RVR1960. Over the years the 1909 version has fallen out of favor - archaic language is the reason - some words are not used at all or are greatly changed in meaning.

If communicating is the purpose, RVR 1960 is the gold standard with RVR 1995 and LBA (=NASB)showing some acceptance.

Please do not encourage anyone to use RVR1909, it really is not a viable translation.

Thanks for the comments, Jose. I guess I shouldn't have lumped all Christians together in the same boat. Yes, different groups use different Bibles, but I guess it still remains true that the Reina-Valera version of the Bible is a popular version in use, regardless of the date.
