Spanish Translations Service
(Why I Became a Translator)

Compared to some of my colleagues, I am still fairly new to the Spanish translations service industry. However, the 10-plus years that I've had working as both a freelance and in-house translator have taught me many things and given me many opportunities.

One of the things I've learned is that I have been given a unique opportunity that not everyone else has: a chance to work in an area that I truly enjoy. Over these past few years, I've realized that while I might not be the richest guy on the block, there are many benefits that have come with being a translator and have made my journey thus far one that I've thoroughly enjoyed.

So here are some of the benefits that I've had in choosing the Spanish translations service profession (or Why I think being a translator is AWESOME!!):

Working with languages
OK, so probably everyone works with language in one way or another, but being able to get down to the nitty-gritty (as Nacho Libre would say) of language and see how it affects the world around us is not something that everyone is able to have in their job.

Interacting with different cultures
Steven Pinker, a prominent psychologist, state that "Language is a window into human nature." Translating makes me feel like I am connecting with the identity of groups of people on a deeper level.

Helping to bridge the communication gap
It's always nice to feel like you're being helpful to someone else, and helping to open up someone else's world view through translation is a great feeling.

Working as an individual or together with a team
There are times when I feel better working on something alone, and other times when my best work is done collaborating with others. Working in the Spanish translations service sector has given me that freedom.

Hearing my kids brag to their friends about their "translator" dad
Most 7-year olds don't have any clue what translation is or what a translator does. Well,l my kids do and that makes me just a wee bit proud.

Mixing language and technology
I am very interested in emerging technologies and to be able to see how these technologies not only affect the way we view technology but also how they utilize language to push the envelope is very rewarding for me.

These are just some of the benefits that I've had in my time as both a freelance and in-house translator. I'm sure I could come up with a bunch more if I spent a little more time thinking. But what about you? Why did you become a translator? What interests you about the translation industry and translation in general?
