Translation Certification in Urdu

by Muhammad
(Ottawa, Canada)

Muhammad asked: I am looking for an institute which will award translation certification online in the Urdu language. Does anyone know of any such institute or school?

In addition, does anyone know how much this would cost and if there are different rules for certification in different states and countries, such as Canada, and if certification in the United States is recognized by Canadian courts?

I'd also like to know whether translation and interpretation certification can be completed at the same time. Also, if the same certificates are not recognized, is there a return policy for the fee? I had my two one-year diplomas in paralegal studies from Atlanta, Georgia, but proved just a piece of paper that was from PIDC. The second one was a diploma in hotel and restaurant management from Stratford College. Is this just another piece of junk not recognized by anyone? Will it also be a waste of time and money?

The Spanish Translator: Thanks for the questions, Muhammad. Sounds like you've thought a lot about becoming a translator or interpreter and are asking some of the right questions in order to become a professional in the business.

First of all, as I am not an Urdu translator, I don't know of any schools or institutes that offer translation certification Urdu, but hopefully someone here can help you with that.

For your second question, translation and interpretation certification are two different processes and very rarely (if ever) are completed with one certification test. Also, certification tests and courses are usually non-refundaable, so you'll want to make sure you do your homework before choosing the certification program that is right for you. The degrees you got in school should be fine, as there is no right way or path to becoming a professional translator or interpreter. Use those skills you learned in school and market your ability to not only translate Urdu (an in-demand language, by the way), but to translate material related to legal matters and/or hotel management.
