Translation Conferences

Attending translation conferences is one of the best ways for translators to network and improve their own translation business.

These conferences cover all aspects of translation, ranging from literary translation to translation theory to localization techniques and software.

Because there are so many conferences, it's impossible to attend them all. However, with everything else, it's important to decide what kind of translator-related conference would be the best for your business and help you learn and grow as a translator.

Most all conferences cost money: registration fees, travel expenses, lodging, and meals. However, these costs can often be counted as tax deductions related to your freelance translation business.

I will not attempt to list the many different conferences available for translators, but instead point you to the best resources online for language-related conferences:

Roy's Translation Conferences Page - This page has been online since 1995 and posts the conference schedules for linguists, translators, interpreters, and teachers of languages. There is even a conference listing for May 2014!

Language Conferences Worldwide - Upcoming events in language, linguistics, speech and hearing therapy, translation, TESOL and related fields.

Konferenser - Conferences - List of conferences within translation, interpreting, LSP, and terminology.

The Linguist List - Current conferences from the Linguist List, the home of the International Linguistics Community online.
