Translation Education Options

by Angie
(Mexico City)

My name is Angie Uribe, I live in Mexico City. My native tongue is Spanish and I also speak English. I have very little experience translating but I've realized that it is something I enjoy doing a lot, and that it suits me as a profession.

I would like to take an on-line course to get a certificate or diploma in translation but I still haven't been able to decide where to do it, I've been considering The International House in Barcelona or maybe The Words Language Services in Dublin, but in any case I am still not sure which would be a well internationally recognized institution for this kind of title. I would appreciate it a lot if you could give some advice on this matter.

I am also very keen on getting good experience translating from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. Therefore I would be happy to do some translations for free, I would appreciate it a lot if you could also help me with that.

Online Education
by: Marcos

Hola, I am an American student studying technical communication and I'm also minoring in Spanish. I've found it hard to find any online classes for Spanish. I think the reasoning is because with Spanish you need to have interaction and that can be difficult with online classes. Technology is almost there though so that it may be possible to do online Spanish classes in the future. The most important aspect of the translation field is getting the certificate that qualifies you as a recognized translator. I would love some help in the future and even have some surveys for class that you might be interested in partaking. Perhaps if you have other friends in the field I we could do some survey work together by gathering information for a class project I am working on. Good luck!
