by Armando Riquier

Translation (or "the rendition of words uttered or published in one language to words of a different language") services (or "works done by somebody for somebody else as a task") mean the professional work of freelancers or companies all over the world provided to all the people who require it. We know that there should be about 6800 languages on earth and global communication is essential in our age of the World Wide Web. Thus the services performed by translators play an important function in sectors such as business, education, leisure and health where language barriers have to be eliminated.

Now days distances are less of a barrier: we can easily reach every corner of the world or move from a nation to another. We live in a multi-cultural order where people study, work, and communicate through numerous different languages. Thanks to the Internet and computers, it is as well faster and easier to maintain contacts either for pleasure or business work. Nowadays there are fewer language barriers, but particularly in business, accuracy of languages is very key. That's why translation services are important: they facilitate dealing in the most professional and finest fashion. Business translations involve contracts, terms, conditions, and profit, thus they have to be extremely accurate and they have to be done by pros who possess a flawless knowledge of the subject area. Having a basic knowledge of a language is one thing, but being capable of rendering a professional translation service is quite another. In order to achieve success in partnerships a flawless communication among the parties is indispensable and a high fidelity translation service is understandably an important facet of it.

In simple terms, what is translation services? It is the task of a professional translators' staff that operate according to a goal and in relation to the specific target audience. Many idioms change from one language to another, that's why word for word translation is a task that many people can do, while real, professional translation is not as facile as it may seem. Literal translation can be acceptable for amateurs. But behind true translation services there is often laborious work, much practical experience and years worth of study. Additionally professional linguists are able to utilize proper translation tools such as lexicons and programs called CAT (Computer Aided Translation) tools. The project director of a group of translators is very often besides a competent and skillful linguist, a good organizer of staff. This is not always easy because deadlines are often very stiff and translators operate under a lot of pressure, but, at the same time, they have to provide quality services.

A lot of companies invest in translation service in order to obtain a flawless communication with their foreign clients or partners. These services give business firms an international touch thanks to the quality work of companies or freelancers which is apprised by the people who deal with such agencies. In our age of global communication it is surely one of the most significant characteristics of global business and the key to successful bilateral relationships in a multi-cultural society as ours.
