Translator Education: Becoming a translator

by Mariana
(Greensboro, North Carolina)

Are there any places to in North Carolina where I can study translation? Are there any places that are either free or fairly affordable?

If not, are there any online programs that offer translation education?

Finding translation schools
by: Clint

Hi Mariana,

Finding a translation program at the university level can be a little tough because a lot of translators don't end up going to school to study the industry. Instead, they often use their personal experiences to in the languages to enhance whatever subject matter they are experts in, and then become translators for that subject.

That being said, there are a few schools in the country that offer specific programs in translation and/or interpretation.

You can find a list of those at the translation education page and at the bottom there is a link to a website that lists various schools in the U.S. with translation programs. I'm not sure if they're are any in North Carolina, but there might be.

I do know that there is a certificate program in translating and translation studies at UNC Charlotte, so that might be what your looking for, too.
