Both good points, Sara. I would never consider myself a native Spanish speaker, although there have been times when my Spanish vocabulary has been better than a native speaker I was talking with. Still, I would not consider myself native. Also, word-for-word translations aren't usually done most of the time and you are right in that things like cultural nuances usually don't allow that to happen.
