What does majita or lajita mean?

I was at my 3 month old daughters dr.'s office and the nurse was calling her majita or lajita, What does this mean? I assume it's an endearing term. I heard her calling another baby the same thing.

About Majita or Lajita
by: ELSA LATHEEF

I am sure that nurse was calling your daughter "mijita" which means "mi hijita," Spanish for "my little daughter;" she was actually calling the little girl something we do as an expression of affection. Im COlombia is very common for parents to call their children "mijita" to the girls and " mijito" to the boys. For the record, any Spanish word that ends in either ito, illo is a male diminutive and ita, illa, is a female diminutive
